Twitturly – what are people tweeting about

Titturly

Fab collection service that scans people’s Tweets and then pulls them together to find out which URLs are being talked about the most on twitter.

Absolutely great for finding out industry trends and current thoughts.

As of today (19th June) big news is Stewart Butterfield’s yahoo resignation letter, which has been doing the Twitter rounds.

Can Twitter be saved?

Does it need to be?

According to ReadWriteWeb it does.

They say:

Last week, VentureBeat reported that Twitter decided to hire Pivotal Labs, a company they described as a “quiet but impressive group of big-gun, for-hire developers.” Pivotal Labs have already worked with other clients like salesforce, lumosity, DiscoveryMining, Bringo, and many others.

I say:

Rebuilding should probably have been done a while ago, but at least now they’ve realised their problems and are working to fix them.

Is Twitter Down?

With a rapidly growing userbase, Twitter has had it’s share of stability problems, and some users are gettign annoyed by the Twitter ‘fail whale’ (the logo that is shown when twitter is having problems).

Not sure f the problems are at your end or twitter’s?

Is Twitter Down offers a simple solution – simply access their site and they’ll tell you in one word whether it is or not.

Geeky? Yes, but funny. What’s REALLY geeky is if you buy the t-shirt they’re selling (which I haven’t bought, oh no…)

It’s a Twitter Twaffic Explosion!

According to this, traffic to Twitter nearly doubled between Februdary and April 2008.

An interesting article from compete blog looks more indepth at Twitter and it’s reach.

They say:

  • Twitter users are 10% more likely to be male than the average internet user. This skew is nearly identical across all three Usage groups.
  • Twitter skews heavily towards the college/twenty-something crowd. Twitter attracts 18-24 year-olds at nearly twice the rate of an average U.S website.

Does your teenager Twitter and Plurk?

Interesting post from Business and Blogging regarding use of microblogging tools such as Twitter and Plurk.

Interesting to me as it pointed to another post that reckons the average Twitter user is 37 years old – so much for those out there that say twitter is for kids! ;)

Twitter Counter – how popular are you?

@NikkiPilkington" href="http://twittercounter.com/?username=NikkiPilkington">TwitterCounter for <a href=@NikkiPilkington" width="88" height="26" /> Funky little service that allows you to monitor the growth (or not!) of ‘followers’ of your Tweets.

The more followers you have, the more people will see your messages, and the higher the likelihood of them being ‘re-tweeted’ and passed around.

In addition, if you really want to show off, you can add an icon to your blog or website that shows how many followers you have – probably not advisable if the number is less than ten ;)

Tweetbeep – alerts for Twitter

Twitter logoThis is a great service – simply register a free account, sign in and set up alerts for any search phrases or keywords of interest to you.

For example, I’ve set it up so that if my name is mentioned, I get an email and can find out who is mentioning it and why. I’ve set up alerts for keyphrases relating to my industry and services, and some personal ones (come no, we all want to know when someone is Tweeting about Johnny Depp, right?)
