How to get more twitter followers

It shouldn’t be the be all and end all of Twitter, but lots of people are focused on getting as many people to follow them as possible.

Personally I would rather have a few people really interested in what I have to share than thousands who are just following me in the hope I will follow them back.

But people like Kevin Rose and Robert Scoble have thousands of followers seriously interested in what they have to say – what’s not to like about that?

The fabulous doshdosh has a post today on how to get more twitter followers.

An excerpt (make sure you read the whole article – it’s great):

  1. Create a tool/application and promote your profile alongside it.
  2. Buy a banner ad to target tech-savvy audiences, link it to your profile.
  3. Use Twitter as a tool for tech/customer support.
  4. Organize a contest through your Twitter profile
  5. Include links to your profile in email/forum signatures.
  6. Evangelize Twitter on your blog/other blogs and include a link to your profile.
  7. Connect your blog and other social media profiles to your Twitter page.
  8. Learn to pitch Twitter influencers with articles relevant to their interest
  9. Explicitly ask another user to recommend your profile or exchange recommendations

And of course, you can follow me, Nikki Pilkington on twitter ;)
