Twitter can help you to learn to speed read?

Yes, according to Steveswrong on his Right to be Wrong blog.

I have to say, he has a point – we must be reading quicker, what with scanning all those 140 character messages; even more so if you’re using something such as Twhirl or Tweetdeck and have lots of people to follow.

We haven’t tested his claim that Twitter has helped him to read at 7 words per second, but we’re not going to doubt it!

Repost: Twitter faces the gallows by limiting unauthenticated API requests

Great post by TK Kirchner over on Blorge regarding Twitter shooting itself in the foot by limiting API requests.

Rather than rehash it, I’m posting the first paragraph here and you can click over to Blorge to read the rest.

Twitter faces the gallows by limiting unauthenticated API requests Twitter has been trying to stay afloat in the mist of overwhelming traffic for quite some time now. They’ve disabled features, like reply tabs and instant messages, and even tried to reduce authenticated API requests, from unlimited to 70 to 20 and back up to 100. Now, they’re placing a limit on unauthenticated API requests, moving it down to 100 requests per hour per IP address. Developers are already complaining that such move is going to cause serious problems for their businesses and, in effect, cause problems for Twitter.

Twitturly dying? Have a heart, Twitter!

According to Twitturly, due to recent changes to Twitter’s API, Twitturly is slowly dying. There’s a plea on their status page for Twitturly users to contact the poeple that can help fix this, namely: @ev">Evan Williams, @biz">Biz Stone, @al3x">Alex Payne, @_evan">Evan Weaver.

The graphic below shows how the number of Tweets Twitturly processes in a day has dropped dramatically since the API changes.

Twitturly

For those of you that haven’t heard of Twitturly, here’s their blurb:

Twitt(url)y, or twitturly if you prefer, is a service for tracking what URLs people are talking about as they talk about them on Twitter.

Easy Tweeting the Easy Tweet way

Another way to post to multiple Twitter accounts at once- handy if you run a personal and a business account, or have various different accounts for clients, as we do.

Free to sign up, but web based, so has some limitations – it would be nice to see a desktop or browser plugin version. Until then I guess Twhirl is as good as it gets :)

Twitter bigger in UK than in US?

According to this report at Paid Content it is:

Web measurer Hitwise says it’s the reverse – at least, proportionally. “Last week the site’s share of UK internet visits was 70 percent higher its share of visits in America,” said analyst Robin Goad. ”Twitter cannot yet be considered mainstream in the USA, but in the UK it’s getting there.” Its growth here – 485 percent so far this year and 631 percent year-on-year – is slower than the eightfold annual international increase, though.

A million ways to search Twitter, Olympic updates, iPhone apps and more

Morning campers, another round up commences, another day begins.

  • Not strictly about Twitter, but I like this post on Hotels and Social networks from Chris Brogan – Twitter could be great for meeting up with other delegates and guests in a hotel – although it is probably open to misuse….

Are you a whore?, Guide to twitter, ruining your career and more!

Good morning Twitter campers – a fairly hefty roundup this morning as lots of news and views coming in by email as well as on our twitter radar!

  • Twitter Status keeps us updated on the ..ummm… status of Twitter – good if you’re intersted in stats and figures – and pretty little graphs :)

Bands on the bandwagon, easy updating, TwitThis, stalking and more!

  • It’s after lunch so time for another Twitter roundup :)
  • Bands are jumping on the Twitter bandwagon (see what I did there?) according to Frank Kroliki - can’t say i’m surprised, it’s a great way to get quick and easy news out.
  • 26 Ways to update Twitter from Lost In Technology – desktop clients, firefox plugins, and online services galore. You’ll neverbe stuck for a way to update Twitter again!
  • If you write articles and put them on Ezine Articles then this tip from The Income Academy helps you to make sure that they’re publicised on twitter too. This could probably be applied to lots of other content sites too, so have a think about it.

Geek & Poke – the Genesis of a Tweet

Fabulously funny cartoon from Geek & Poke:

Twitter life cycle, ɹǝʇʇıʍʇ uı uʍop ǝpısdn, popular Twitter Apps and more

Good morning people – time for the morning roundup of Twitter news on my radar:

  • Interesting Twitter Life Cycle diagram from CogDog – I think it pretty much encompasses most people’s experience of Twitter, at least in a social capacity. Some intersting links from that story too, to others’ examples of their Twitter experience.
  • ɹǝʇʇıʍʇ uı uʍop ǝpısdn ǝʇıɹʍ oʇ ʍoɥ – over at Paciific IT, Robert Sanzalone tells us how to write upside down in Twitter – yes, I know it has no actual USE, and it’s very annoying after a while, but it’s geeky and funny for about 3 seconds and I guarantee most of you will try it ;)

I'm happy to use Increase Sociability.
