ToAnswer or not ToAnswer?

Date: 18th August 2008
No Comments Related Categories: Uncategorized
A new Twitter app from ToAnswer tells us:

If you have ever used Ask MetaFilter or Yahoo Answers, you already understand the basic premise of ToAnswer. Some users ask questions, the questions are indexed, and other users respond to questions that may know the answer to. It’s a simple, efficient way to query the minds of others.

So what’s the point, if Ask Metafilter and Yahoo Answers provide the same service? ToAnswer is special in one way: it interfaces with Twitter. This provides advantages and disadvantages that gives ToAnswer a unique niche. It allows you to tap Twitter’s enormous user base. However, due to the nature of Twitter you are limited to 140-character questions and answers. This makes ToAnswer the perfect medium for making small polls or quick questions.

These companies “get” Twitter – great post from Twittermaven

Recently after seeing a proliferation of spammers join Twitter, I wrote about Identifying unscrupulous twitterers and some ways to protect yourself from them. Unfortunately, during my research, I found many companies that exhibited the same behavior. Twitter is a conversational tool that enables community of like minded people and fans. However, many brands just see twitter as another channel for broadcasting their campaigns and pushing the message out. A simple monologue, hawking the latest item on sale or “cool ad”. I’m sorry, but it doesn’t work that way. Who is doing this? Unfortunately, there is a long list. Many well respected companies, large and small. Companies like Amazon, Mountain Dew, Cruise West, and Wine Enthusiast.

33 Brands That Suck on Twitter

Brands That Suck on Twitter: I don’t write this post to be mean spirited; I write this post to simply call attention to brands and companies that are totally missing the boat and not listening on twitter where millions of conversations are happening everyday. Do companies think about or even care what people are saying about them, their products or services on twitter? If they don’t, then they are about to be rudely awakened soon enough.

Backup your Twitter followers with Tweetake!

The brainchild of Alfred Armstrong and Nikki Pilkington, Tweetake is here to allow you to back-up your followers, people you are following and Tweets with just one click.

Why bother to do this? Many reasons:

  • Twitter may lose followers again like it did in June / July
  • You may change your Twitter name and want to re-follow the people you were following, and contact the people who were following you
  • You may want to refer to a Tweet that you sent more than 90 days ago (the longest twitter keeps Tweets for)

Pretty rabbit porn, the true meaning of Twitter and don’t forget your Twitterdex!

A quick round up of morning Twitter news :)

Matthom got so fed up waiting for Twitter to create an archive facility that he created his own – you can read more about it on his blog. He says:

Rather than updating Twitter directly, I will update via a custom app which copies each update into a local database, as well as updating on Twitter. To my followers, nothing changes. My updates still come across in real-time as they are sent.

He still hasn’t figured out how to get his old Tweets back, but we have no doubt he’s working on it!
