Steve Reeves of Front Office Box answered a few questions about his use of Twitter for business. Thanks Steve for taking time out of your busy schedule!
How long have you been on Twitter?
I’ve been on Twitter for only a few weeks – maybe 6 or so.
How many people do you follow?
I’m following around 40 people for the moment. Some of these are people I do business with but most I picked up on Triiibes or Twellow. I’m deleting these as it becomes obvious they don’t add any value.
Meanwhile whenever I come across “real” business people I’m adding them to my follow list so the twitter relationship is based on a wider relationship – maybe business or personal if I know them well.
How many people follow you?
There are 26 people following me but probably less than 10 have any interest in what I’m posting.
What made you sign up to Twitter?
I signed up out of curiosity about 4 months ago. It didn’t make any sense to me so I never used.
One of my supply chain partners suggested there could be business benefits, so now I’m figuring what they are.
Unfortunately the usefulness of Twitter has diminished badly as they stopped the SMS service in Europe. I have an iPhone and Twitterific, so Twitter keeps me in the picture when I’m on the move. Most of my contacts don’t.
I do have one friend (and user) who’s stopped using the service as a result.
How often do you ‘Tweet’?
I probably tweet on average twice a day but they’re really only targeted at friends or close partners.
How has Twitter been benificial to your business?
I do think there’s a real opportunity for Twitter and other social media services to create real value in business, but only when real business people (as opposed to the social media posers) get involved.
If you had to recommend one person that business people should follow on Twitter, who would it be and why?
I wouldn’t recommend one person for business people to follow, because I haven’t seen anybody posting stuff that’s relevant to an audience of people they don’t know.
