I’m a bit of a celebrity addict, so when I found out that the gorgeous Alan Davies was on Twitter, I was following like a shot.

I’ve had a massive crush on Alan since well before QI and Jonathan Creek, and his Urban Trauma standup is still, to my mind, one of the funniest routines I’ve seen. I loved Jonathan Creek, devour QI as soon as it appears on YouTube, and would say I’m a pretty loyal fan.

The Twoogle effect – be careful what you say!

A while ago the rumour was that Twitter pages were ‘noindex, ‘nofollow’ or that robots.txt kept Google out, but it seems that if this was ever the case, it certainly isn’t now.

A recent change in how Twitter writes the title tags on pages is seeing people’s Twitter profiles showing up in the search results when someone searches a name.

A month ago a search on my name brought up my own site, a few networking sites I was a member of, a couple of my blogs and some other profiles.

A great PubCon South interview with Michael Gray about how to make the most of Twitter.

The basics (but do watch the interview; it’s great!)

- Be polite
- Make friends
- Start conversations
- Ask questions
- Answer questions

So it’s not all about ‘me me me’ and it’s not just a broadcast medium – exactly the kind of attitude we like!

Guess What, I've just got my own Whale when I was twittering...

In the last few days I’ve spoken to quite a few journalists about the fact that it IS possible to get business and leads from twitter.

I’ve argued with a couple of people who think that the only people who are making money from it are people offering Twitter training courses or Twitter consultancy.

And do you know what? It gets really frustrating. NOT because I’m trying to promote a Twitter training course. Not because I’m trying to sell them anything in fact (the course is no good if you’ve not already had some experience with twitter). But because I KNOW it works if done properly. And I’m pretty damned sure it will work for everyone.

The power of the Retweet – how Stephen Fry helped me illustrate a point

One of the things I cover in the TweetMentor course, and one of the most overlooked things on Twitter (in my opinion) is the power of the Retweet.

The Retweet is an all round good thing in so many ways – I’m not going to go into them all here, but just point you to Retweetist before giving you an example.

Last night I published a short blog about the fact that Twitter had banned @TweepMe and why I agreed. It was one of many such blogs out there. Don’t tell anyone, but it wasn’t even the best….

@TweepMe suspended by Twitter – not a moment too soon!

Earlier today and yesterday you may have seen loads of tweets flying around about free membership to TweepMe if you retweeted details of it.

TweepMe billed itself as “the fastest way to accumulate followers on Twitter. When a new member joins, every other member automatically follows the new member, and the new member follows them back. The process is gradual and happens over the course of weeks or months depending on the number of TweepMe members. ”

So basically, you joined, and everyone already in the network followed you, and you followed them – a bit like a Twitter Follower farm.

I don’t often use this blog to promote my own ’stuff’ so I hope you’ll all forgive me this one time!

I’ve put together a Twitter Checklist of 40 things I think you should be looking at if you’re serious about promoting your business on Twitter.

I’m giving it to you for free – however there is a bit of a catch. To get it free you have to read about a new service I’m promoting – TweetMentor.

You can find out more and get your free Twitter for business checklist here

Is promotion to 2400+ people worth £2 of your money?

Man crosses shipping lane in a pedalo – Nikki offers Twitter promotion for £2!

Yes, I know it’s Comic Relief soon and everyone is charitied out – but what about the smaller causes? The ones that don’t have armies of people queuing up to climb mountains, bake cupcakes and hold coffee mornings for them?

The causes that still make a real difference in people’s lives, but we don’t often get to hear about?

The Wessex Rehabilitation Centre is one such cause. It opened in 1956 and treats patients across Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Isles and specialises in intensive rehabilitation following hand, arm and leg surgery, burns, chronic spinal pain and multiple injuries.
