Man crosses shipping lane in a pedalo – Nikki offers Twitter promotion for £2!
Yes, I know it’s Comic Relief soon and everyone is charitied out – but what about the smaller causes? The ones that don’t have armies of people queuing up to climb mountains, bake cupcakes and hold coffee mornings for them?
The causes that still make a real difference in people’s lives, but we don’t often get to hear about?
The Wessex Rehabilitation Centre is one such cause. It opened in 1956 and treats patients across Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Isles and specialises in intensive rehabilitation following hand, arm and leg surgery, burns, chronic spinal pain and multiple injuries.
And they made such a difference to businessman Mike Boss’s life that he’s undertaking a quite amazing (and some would say amazingly stupid!) stunt to raise money for them. He’s crossing The Solent – which Wikipedia tells us is “a major shipping route for passengers, freight and military vessels”. Nothing special in that, eh? Except he’s doing it widthways – ON A PEDALO!
Yes, a pedalo. And he’s trying to raise £5000 for The Wessex Rehabilitation Centre (possibly to pay for his own treatment after he’s been mown down by a shipoping container!).
Seriously though, it’s a great cause, he’s a great bloke, and I’d like to think we can show people the power of Twitter while helping him (and each other) at the same time. The minimum donation on his Just Giving page is £2. If everyone who donates £2 uses their Twitter name as their nickname, Just Giving automatically link to the Twitter profile page in question. I personally will follow and promote anyone who does this. I will thank them in my Twitterstream of 2400+ followers, which may get them more followers. Not bad for £2 eh?
Now let’s show everyone that Twitter is about more than promoting your business and “I had an egg sandwich for lunch”. Give £2 – please.
