Locomu: A Wholesome Twitter Apps Directory, A guest post by Hemant Sirohi

Locomu is an all inclusive Twitter apps directory that brings all the Twitter apps meandering across the web. The long list of apps include popular names which have world wide acclaim as well as the not so popular names which are both useful and meaningful but are not noticeable to the users.

Searching applications and tools for Twitter is otherwise a very taxing job. One has to go searching the entire web sometimes typing the name of the apps and sometimes the platform it is meant for and the other times when even these don’t help one has to type the specific features they want in the applications. Hopping from one search result to other just in the search of the right one isn’t a very good option as it eats away a lot of time and doesn’t even prove helpful all the time.

Back up your followers with Tweetake!

Many moons ago in 2008 I teamed up with @alfaguru to develop a system that allowed you to back up your Twitter followers, friends messages and DMs – we called it Tweetake.

Because both of us have real, paying work to do, we’ve not promoted it as much as we should, so it’s always lovely to see that many people use it every day.

Every few days someone drops me a line and says nice things about it, and occasionally people even donate towards future development which is nice.

But I didn’t imagine anyone would write a blog post about it!

The ultimate, but simple guide to getting more followers on Twitter

To get more followers on twitter (I have 5300+ now), there are three main ways of gaining followers:

1) Proactive means

2) Passive ways

3) automated following

All of these methods rely on you putting up interesting content to your target market. Plus following the rule of thirds for your tweets – 1 third about you and what you are doing with your business (not selling, just talking about what you are getting up to in your business), 1/3 replies to people – after all you are looking to engage with your followers, and 1/3 about your business, e.g. blog posts. Until you are established on twitter (think 500+ followers), don’t be tempted to advertise on twitter. Out of about 10-15 tweets I post up a day, I only allow myself 1 tweet which is an advertisement for one of my products.

Tools to measure influence on twitter

Klout is fast becoming the twitter application of choice for how influential someone is on twitter. Anything over 60, and this person is a major player on twitter. (I am normally over 60). Anything over 40 is fairly respectable.

Twitter grader awards you a grade out of 100 how influential you are on twitter. I personally find this grade is heavily based on the number of followers you have. However, it is very useful to see who are the major twitter players local to you on twitter.

How many blogs a month will you want from me?

As many as you like, but a minimum of one per month

What can I write about?

Hootsuite Pro – why is everyone giving them such a hard time?

I love Hootsuite.

I’m not affiliated, they’re not a client, and I don’t know the guys behind it; but I love it.

With Hootsuite I can:

  • Manage 20+ Twitter accounts
  • Manage 50+ Facebook Business Pages
  • Schedule Tweets and Facebook updates to appear when I (or my client) wants
  • See stats on Tweets – for example, how many people clicked
  • Create lists of people I follow
  • Find new people to follow
  • Keep track of specific searches
  • and more

TopyTalk.com – Twitter talk oriented timeline

When Alex R,  the developer of TopyTalk.com aproached us with details of his new app, we asked him to tell you about it in his own words – and here they are!

Topytalk is a Twitter talk-oriented timeline.

Since its beginning Twitter has focused on the one-directional message flow. The idea was to follow someone for news, personal updates and – added later – retweets. But in the world of human interactions it is quite natura to be curious about what others talk about and especially to be interested in the conversations among the people you follow. Twitter provides no facility for that.

How do I search within my Twitter followers?

This is a question I get asked a lot, so I was thrilled to receive a notification by email this weekend that Tweetreports now offers this functionality.

Now, with just a few clicks you can search and follow updates posted by your followers, people you’re following, or both. So watch the video to see how our In-Network (search within) feature works.

Their video (reproduced below) shows you how, and you can visit their website at www.tweetreports.com to find out more about their full product, which offers a whole host of useful features.

Guestblog: Echofon Review by Goldilocks without the bears…

Coming late to the iPhone I am just starting to explore what Twitter Apps work best for it.

I started out by downloading my beloved Tweedeck for the iPhone. We did not get on. It's not intuitive to use, in fact I am not sure if I did use it at all for three weeks although I tried too.

Columns wouldn't update and generally a clunky feel that I didnt feel comfortable with.

This saddened me as I love Tweetdeck and it's my app of choice for my PC.

Guestblog: Twitter for business – twitter backgrounds and twidgets

Being as a friend calls me, a pioneer, I love finding things and trying them (trying in every sense of the word!).

One of my latest finds has thrilled me no end :-) It's here, http://www.freetwitterdesigner.com/

This nifty little gadget enables you to experiment with having a 'branded' twitter background. Yup a background that matches all your over stuff :-)

Research has shown having consistent branding across various social media platforms and apps increases recognition of the brand. Even if the brand is just you.

I'm happy to use Increase Sociability.
