Many suspended Twitter accounts weren’t backed up

My inbox was full of frantic emails today from people on the Tweetmentor course who had suddenly found that their accounts were suspended.

The Twitter status blog says:

Earlier today, we accidentally suspended a number of accounts.

We regret the human error that led to these mistaken suspensions and we are working to restore the affected accounts—we expect this to be completed in the next several hours.

So hopefully things will be back to normal soon.

But interestingly, out of the emails I received, about 60% were from poeple frantic that they would lose all of their contacts, and have to start from scratch again, as they hadn’t backed up their followers.

Another 5 Twitter applications

A quick shout out to Killer Startups, who have given us links to yet another 5 Twitter apps:

TwitMessenger

TwitMessenger is another Twitter application that offers quite an interesting service. With this solution you will have the chance to schedule your tweets. In this way you will be allowed to program them so they come out whenever you want, no matter the hour, day, month, or year.

Share files via Twitter

It was a brief email:

File Tweet Brings the much needed File Sharing On Twitter. Sit Back , Specify the file you want to share & the tweet you want to accompany with it. Rest is on Auto-Pilot.

Website Url : www.filetwt.com

Do Give me a review :D

There’s not much more info on the site, but I did try it out, and it did work.

I can’t see any reason why *I* would want to use Twitter to transfer files, but others might, so this one’s for you :)

Foller.me – Find out about any Twitter user

foller An email in this morning asking us to have a look at this new service from Foller.me.

We’re always up for finding out about new Twitter apps and uses, so off we go to have a good look around :)

They tell us:

Foller.me is a new third-party Twitter service that renders instant detailed information about a particular Twitter user’s latest 200 posts. It would generally take hours of scouting and pulling together information from hundreds of posts to scrape up some sort of insight into the user’s topic interests on Twitter. Foller.me does this in a flash, providing 3 tag clouds which represent the user’s key topics on Twitter.

7 New Twitter Apps from Killer Startups

I’ve been a fan of Killer Startups for a while – the premise is that they add 15+ startup sites a day and allow users to vote on them. Unfortunately not as many people as could be are voting, and it seems that there are lots of (ahem) Killer Startups missing out on publicity, so if you could take the time to pop over and have a nose around, I’m sure it would be appreciated!

As this is a blog about Twitter, I’m only going to feature recent Twitter related posts on there, but there are others that are well worth a look too!

Just when you think that there’s nothing else to think of in the Twitterverse, no other use for Twitter and no mad scheme to smile at, along comes an email to let you know that pointless Twitter apps still rule for procrastination and time wasting :)

Twesents allows you to send virtual presents to your Twitter friends, and they kindly sent us an email asking us to give them ago.

So I (Nikki) duly tripped over to the site to give it a go!

Custom Twitter backgrounds from Wishafriend

A bit of a lazy post today if I’m honest – we’re snowed under with new clients (yay!) and have hardly any time to update blogs (boo!) so when this dropped into my inbox it seemed perfect to share with you.

Lots of you hate the sample backgrounds that Twitter give you, but don’t yet want to pay out money to have one created for you – so why not try out Wishafriend Custom Twitter Backgrounds?

Here’s what they said in their email to us:

Would you like to be featured on Business on Twitter?

We’re looking to run another series of interviews with people who are using Twitter for Business purposes. It’s very simple, all you have to do is answer a few questions, in as much detail as you like.

Obviously, the more details you give us, the more likely we are to publish your interview first, but we’re not turning anyone away.

Simply copy and paste the questions below into an email and send to nikki@nikkipilkington.com, then follow Nikki on Twitter to be alerted when your interview is published!

Twitter Questions

How long have you been on Twitter?

Want to make sure you don’t lose your followers? Tweetake!

As one of the partners in Tweetake, we love to see people promoting our service – but I have to say that the cartoon accompanying a post I found today really made me smile:

tweetake

If you use Twitter for business, then it could be important to you to be able to backup your followers if, for whatever reason, they were lost.

I know I wouldn’t like to fall off the edge of the Twitterverse and have the people following me wondering where I had got to.

Play it safe – back up at Tweetake :)
