7 New Twitter Apps from Killer Startups

I’ve been a fan of Killer Startups for a while – the premise is that they add 15+ startup sites a day and allow users to vote on them. Unfortunately not as many people as could be are voting, and it seems that there are lots of (ahem) Killer Startups missing out on publicity, so if you could take the time to pop over and have a nose around, I’m sure it would be appreciated!

As this is a blog about Twitter, I’m only going to feature recent Twitter related posts on there, but there are others that are well worth a look too!

Just when you think that there’s nothing else to think of in the Twitterverse, no other use for Twitter and no mad scheme to smile at, along comes an email to let you know that pointless Twitter apps still rule for procrastination and time wasting :)

Twesents allows you to send virtual presents to your Twitter friends, and they kindly sent us an email asking us to give them ago.

So I (Nikki) duly tripped over to the site to give it a go!

Launching Twinterviewing – Twinterviews with Tweeters around the world!

I’ve been thinking about it for a while – live Twinterviews with people using Twitter for business, but wasn’t sure how to go about it.

And then it hit me – we’ll do it through a Twitter account – and so Twinterviewing was born.

So how does it work?

Well, once or twice a week, we’ll run a live Twitter interview – by following the Twinterviewer and the Twinterviewee, you’ll be able to follow the thread of the interview, and we’ll be using hashtags so that you can see the whole thing later on. We’ll probably also archive the interviews here on Business on Twitter.

Top 10 Titter-inducing Twitter Takes

This site is all about using Twitter for Business, and I’m a great believer in that, but, let’s be honest, when it boils down to it, Tweeting is easy to laugh at.

Try explaining it to someone who has never even heard of it: “Well, it’s, erm, well you tell people what you are doing, in 140 characters, and they choose to follow you”

Sounds crazy doesn’t it?

It doesn’t hurt to laugh at twitter occasionally, and with that in mind, here are my 10 favourite videos poking fun at our new addiction :)

Would you like to be featured on Business on Twitter?

We’re looking to run another series of interviews with people who are using Twitter for Business purposes. It’s very simple, all you have to do is answer a few questions, in as much detail as you like.

Obviously, the more details you give us, the more likely we are to publish your interview first, but we’re not turning anyone away.

Simply copy and paste the questions below into an email and send to nikki@nikkipilkington.com, then follow Nikki on Twitter to be alerted when your interview is published!

The power of the Retweet – how Stephen Fry helped me illustrate a point

One of the things I cover in the TweetMentor course, and one of the most overlooked things on Twitter (in my opinion) is the power of the Retweet.

The Retweet is an all round good thing in so many ways – I’m not going to go into them all here, but just point you to Retweetist before giving you an example.

Last night I published a short blog about the fact that Twitter had banned @TweepMe and why I agreed. It was one of many such blogs out there. Don’t tell anyone, but it wasn’t even the best….

Twittering is just randomly bragging about your unexceptional life…

Beware of the fail whale ;)

Is promotion to 2400+ people worth £2 of your money?

Man crosses shipping lane in a pedalo – Nikki offers Twitter promotion for £2!

Yes, I know it’s Comic Relief soon and everyone is charitied out – but what about the smaller causes? The ones that don’t have armies of people queuing up to climb mountains, bake cupcakes and hold coffee mornings for them?

The causes that still make a real difference in people’s lives, but we don’t often get to hear about?

The Wessex Rehabilitation Centre is one such cause. It opened in 1956 and treats patients across Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Isles and specialises in intensive rehabilitation following hand, arm and leg surgery, burns, chronic spinal pain and multiple injuries.
