Woohoo! It’s #followfriday!

Date: 7th August 2009

OK, it’s probably not that exciting anymore, unless you’re new to Twitter, but I still find FollowFriday a great way to find new people to follow and find out more about.

Someone asked me the other day; “Has #followfriday run its course? Is it old now? Is it over?” I don’t know the answer to that, but I really hope not, because to me, FF epitomises one of the great things about networking – referrals.

When done properly, and thought through, #FollowFriday is a great way to shout out about and recommend the people you follow who really make a difference, and who you feel shold be brought to the attention of others.

Twitter is all about following people you’re interested in, right?

But when they’re all in amongst all the other people on Twitter, it gets hard to find them!

Find2Follow is designed to help you find the people you may like to follow – without having to search around for them – all you have to do is give them your username – it’s as simple as that!

It’s Friday once more, and that means it’s #followfriday – you might want to read the last couple of #followfriday posts I’ve written to find out more:

If you can’t be bothered to read those, it’s pretty simple – Follow Friday is about sharing with your followers the people you thnk are worth following. That way people find new and interesting people who are worth following.

It’s #followfriday! A quick reminder, and my list

Once again, #followfriday rolls around, and once again I’m hoping to see *reasons* to follow people, not just a random list that gives me no pointers.

Last week I wrote this post entitled #FollowFriday – it’s not just a list, to explain my thoughts on Follow Friday.

For those that haven’t read it and can’t be bothered, a quick recap:

…today, instead of sending out 140 characters consisting of just usernames, have a think, and tell me WHY I should be following someone….

So, here are some of my #followfriday suggestions for today:

#FollowFriday – it’s not just a list!

It’s Friday again, which means #followfriday, where Twitter users recommend people they think are good to follow by sending a Tweet saying ‘#followfriday @username because blah blah blah’

Well, to my mind, that’s what we SHOULD be doing – but in effect what tends to happen is this:

“#followfriday @username1 @username2 @username3 @username4 etc”

Now, anyone who knows me knows that I’m not one for telling people HOW to use Twitter. I can tell you categorically, however, that I pay no attention to those type of lists. I’m sure that YOU know why you’re telling me to follow someone, but with a list like that *I* don’t.

It’s FollowFriday! What’s FollowFriday?

It’s Friday today – on Twitter it’s known as FollowFriday.

Now, if you don’t know where FF came from, feel free to read this – http://mashable.com/2009/03/06/twitter-followfriday/ for the longer version, or below for the shorter version and why I think it’s good

FollowFriday began in January 2009, and it’s a way of recommending people on Twitter to your followers. You recommend a person, and then you say why others should follow them. You could recommend more than one person, and send more than one Tweet about this if you want. The important bit (to my mind) is to tell people WHY they should follow this person.

Who I follow, and who I don’t (and why) on Twitter

“Why don’t you follow as many people as follow you Nikki?”

“I’m following you, why aren’t you following me, Nikki?”

“I stopped following you because you’re not following me Nikki”

Just 3 of the messages I’ve received recently talking about who I do and don’t follow on Twitter.

You may have already read my post ‘How I use Twitter’, and this is in a similar vein, but here are my thoughts on following and followers.

Top 10 List of People to Unfollow on Twitter

A great article by Shannon Whitley:

Although I can easily think of several individuals I’d like to place on this list, I figured it would be too mean to actually call them out by name (and possibly result in a libel suit).  So the list below contains ten archetypes that I’ve noticed on Twitter.  I’m sure there are many others, so feel free to add your own in the comments section.

1) The Pimp – The pimp is always looking for avenues of self-promotion.  If almost every tweet is a reference to a blog post and even conversations end in links to posts, you’re following The Pimp.

The Twitter Influence Ratio

Great post from Allan Young with his thoughts on ‘The Twitter Influence Ratio’ or how you can decide whether someone is following based on the number of people they follow and the number of people that follow them.

Here’s an excerpt (accordign to this we have a Twitter Influence Ratio of 1.41 – we’re not sure if that makes us worth following or not!:
