Because Twitter's not just for twits ;)

It’s half past six on a cold morning in Birmingham U.K. Professor Scott Lucas from the Department of American Studies at Birmingham University is already listening to the sonar like ping of Tweetdeck.
Lucas is, in addition to being a busy department head, and the author of a number of books and articles on U.S. Foreign Policy. He is also the Editor in Chief of ‘EA Worldview’, a blog that is regarded as seriously as any printed political journal.
I regularly give talks for entrepreneurial businesses on how to make their marketing pay. Top of my list for most is to try social media as part of their marketing toolkit. And within that, I almost always recommend Twitter. Particularly if the business in question is one where authentic one-to-one relationships count.

So, Twitter have changed the way you can view @messages and people are in uproar.
Basically, the change means that if someone you follow replies to someone you DON’T follow, then you won’t see that message in your Twitter stream.
Well I say “Yay!”
But people are complaining, arms are raised, and uproar is being tweeted, retweeted and re-retweeted. Hashtags galore are being deployed, and people are complaining that ‘Twitter are taking away our choice’.
Well, I just don’t get the fuss.
It shouldn’t be the be all and end all of Twitter, but lots of people are focused on getting as many people to follow them as possible.
Personally I would rather have a few people really interested in what I have to share than thousands who are just following me in the hope I will follow them back.
But people like Kevin Rose and Robert Scoble have thousands of followers seriously interested in what they have to say – what’s not to like about that?
